The Internet is a big place, and I've only seen a fraction of the Spider-Man related stuff out there, but among the things I've read, this guy's reviews are the best. Effective immediately, I'm commenting on those reviews in this thread. At the same time, I'll include my own thoughts on the comic, which I had been offering in other threads, in this same space. This implies I won't be offering my view separately, because Stillanerd simply does so much work on these, that the logical thing is for him to take the lead. Without further ado, here's what I'd like to highlight from last's issue review. That's pretty much what I thought, too, except for the part that involves the Black Cat. He could either be gaining experience, or he could be lying low, because he found himself outclassed. This could end with him gaining some "real" power now, and going back into the fray. This must've been pointed out before, because I find Spider-Verse to be a clear Crisis-like attempt, at cleaning house. I don't agree with th "as usual" bit. He has looked decent when inked by John Dell, and with Cam Smith he looks worse, but still better than what he did, say, when Janson finished his art. My guess is that her actions, could indeed be explained, from the perspective of someone who doesn't reads comics. Only if you haven't done that, can you actually expect the police scanner to just report minor crimes. My words on the subject exactly. Although the update, could also be read as an admission of failure on Peter's part, something he might want to address at some point? Or it could be a veiled critique to The Department of Sanitation's cleaning habits.

Yep. And the reason why I'm thinking he could get tied-up with working for the Black Cat is because it not only brings their stories together, but it highlights something in common: in their minds, they've both been spurned and rejected by Spider-Man. Black Cat, of course, used to be Spidey's lover and her whole motivation for, apparently, becoming a crime boss is due to how she feels rejected by him. Clash used to be one of Spidey's biggest fans to the point he tried to emulate him, until he, too, was rejected by him. Hmm...it just occurred to me that, given how Clash as (deliberate) similarities to Spidey, whether Slott will go as far as to hook both Black Cat and Clash up? You know? Somehow, I can see that line of thinking working in Slott's head. And, given the announcements out of the NY comic con, it's also, paradoxically, an expansion of the Spider-Man family of comics, and it's apparent only those with ongoing books, or soon to have ongoing books, will survive. Not so paradoxical. Cleaning means you discover things (old and new) among the rubble. At the end of the day, it's very plausible they'll have more working concepts, than before they started the process, of throwing characters in the garbage. Sure, but at the same time, it does read like Slott is using a throwaway reference in order to tell folks. "Yeah, we know this happened, but were moving on and were not going to talk about it again." After all, Slott has publicly stated on various message boards that pairing Spidey and Carol Danvers up as a couple would be a bad idea in the long run because it reduces Carol to being just another supporting character for Spider-Man instead of being a superhero in her own right. And it's a sentiment I totally agree with. Just look at what happened with Black Panther and Storm's marriage. Or, IMO, what's currently going on with Superman and Wonder Woman's romance. Carol being her own man, was the expression I used, in the link I provided before. Just by chance, we're bound to sometimes agree with Slott.

The Amazing Spider-Man #8 review. It turns out Clash was actually laying low, so low in fact, that he's still worried about his PO. From the looks of it, he's been "henching" in the past. I wonder if Slott's planning on giving a detailed recollection of his biography, since the events shown in LTC. Seeing as he gets him to do a 180º change, in just one page, I doubt it. Silk finally takes the time to elaborate on her costume, couldn't she have cared about concealing her secret ID? I mean, if you're eyes are out in the open, even facial recognition software won't have any problem, identifying you. And what was that about the cocoon? Does it come from another title? I was totally at a loss here, with the parents an all. The backup story didn't do anything for me, being unfamiliar with the main character, but I was also pretty sure it wouldn't be her last stand. This is probably the weakest issue so far. None of the jokes was funny, the action failed, pace was ruined towards the end, characters remained flat… 4/10.

The Amazing Spider-Man #9 review. I agree, and this is something that didn't strike me at first, with his notion that Spider-Verse might have had a better start, in this issue, if not for the fact that we've already been exposed to the concept, and the characters, previously, in Edge of Spider-Verse. I agree even more with the following paragraph, which I reproduce in its entirety: Mike goes as far as to use the term "steampunk" when demeaning the Inheritors family, something that's also at the core of why, I also think, they cheapen what was (initially) a great character, Morlun. About the only really good reason to buy this comic, is the art. When bringing someone as talented to ASM as Coipel, we're reminded of how little we're offered on a regular basis, let's enjoy him while he lasts, and hope Slott gets his act together. He's done it in the past, when paired with Marcos Martin, there's no reason why he couldn't do it again. Don't miss out on NERDY NITPICKS 1, 2, 3 and 6, they're priceless.

The Amazing Spider-Man #10 review. The word "frantic" perfectly defines the pace of this issue's storytelling. Fast, energetic, but confusing at times. I also find SpOck to come up on top, all things considered, not just of the miriad "spiders" crawling around, but of Peter in particular. I'm not entirely sure about this. Peter points out that their "death", was followed with "turning to dust". This time, due to Octopus using a stasis charge, Daemos body didn't follow "proper" procedure. If they wan't to explain how they transfer consciousness to other bodies (Cylons much?), they wiil also have to account for this deviation. Something tells me I won't be satisfied. This issue was marginally better, and generally ok; if not for Silk's presence, Slott's handling of a Gwen's presence, and some commonly misplace sense of humor here and there. It could've been good. I'm afraid they'll go now, with either the Master Weaver or some sort of steampunk character. Sadly enough, because JMS original rip-off "Parliament of Spiders", was way cooler. If you have to copy, at least copy from the best Why, yes. My explanation would tie nicely with this thread.

Amazing Spider-Man 10 came out last week. I won't spoil anything in case some of you haven't read it but I thought it was a solid 7.5 - 4 for art and 3.5 for story.
I'll talk about it more once I know I won't be spoiling anything for anyone.
If you have read it what did you think?

Every series, LS and special, part of the Spider-Verse event, has its own thread (if I'm not mistaken). In the case of ASM, you have the "Stillanerd's reviews" one. It may look like you need to read them, to comment on that thread, but it's actually the general thread for ASM. The reviews, are just one starting point for the conversation, but you can bring your own.
I will still encourage, specific threads spawning from ASM, like the ones about Felicia, or Silk, but it has to be a juicy topic, otherwise the thread would run its course rather quickly.
On the topic of spoilers, I already said somewhere that I have no problem with them, as long as the title of the thread doesn't itself contain a spoiler. I'll be posting a thread in "The Land" sub-board, about spoilers.
How about moving this posts to the "master" thread, then?

Fair enough Ozy. Apologies for the mistake on my part. If you apologize for that, maybe I should too, for not being clear enough, about the purpose of the main ASM thread

Perhaps, the Inheritors have multiple clones "on-line" and all mentally linked to each other, so that when one dies (and yes, the only reason Daemos didn't crumble into dust was because he was put into "statis" by Doc SpOck after death, I guess. You know, "SCIENCE!") a clone becomes active. My gut-feeling, however, is that how the Inheritors cloning process actually works will be explained in the Scarlet Spiders mini instead of the Amazing Spider-Man "Spider-Verse" story. My problem here, is that when Morlun first died, he was still talking up to when his body was almost gone. Any kind of transfer would've happened afterwards. Then again, much of what we're seeing, in Spider-Verse, of Morlun and co (by extension), doesn't resemble much of what we witnessed on JMS's original story. What was the "Parliament of Spiders" again? It's been awhile since I read all of JMS' run, so I need a refresher. ASM #483, pp 18-19. Not a carbon copy of Moore's concept, but close enough so it should be considered something more than a tribute. However, time and time again, we've seen that Peter's spider-sense does not react to anyone who shares his DNA […] I guess Slott just wanted to emphasize the drama of the moment of Doc SpOck declaring how he's in charge to set up the inevitable fight between him and Peter, but even so, it's not as if Slott had to have Peter's spider-sense go off it order to accomplish this. The way the Spider-sense works, and how DNA tampering can alter it, is really up for speculation. But as you say, this is Doc Ock in Peter's body, so there was no alteration (has it been also stablished that it doesn't react to himself, i.e.. time traveling?). The reason why Slott went this way in this issue, is obviously the one you point out.

I would like to say a few things relating to the Ms Marvel issue 7/8.
Dan Slott believes that pairing up Carol and Peter would make her a supporting character instead of her own hero with this i have to disagree if and i do mean if they decided to do it (i don't think they will) but it could still work. Someone mentioned the Superman/Wonder Woman romance but you can correct me if i'm wrong but Supes has his adventures Diana has hers and they have a team up book from what i believe you can have them do team ups and have each of them do a cameo in the other title and it could still work. I mean Black Widow is a badass spy but when she dated cap she was still a hero in her own right, matter of fact she saved his life on more than one occasion. I think its Dan giving all the Peter/Carol shippers a big massive **** you and i'm extremely upset about it (i haven't read it yet) and you want to know the worse thing i also recall him saying Peter would never have a powered love interest but can someone tell me what the **** silk is.

Point one, I edited your quote to reflect it's true meaning, without censorship. The forum is about a character mainly aimed at youngsters, but we're all adults here, and I think we can handle the "f" word. Point two, the Ms. Marvel who appeared in ASM 7 and 8 had little to do with the original, save the name. Point three, Slott is wrong if he believes that. Carol would do well as a romantic interest, without compromising her own individuality. I think the problem Marvel writers really face, is how to keep Peter's alpha male status in such a relationship Let's also remember that Carol started at the Daily Blugle in her own title, and she has a history with the supporting cast, specially MJ. This could be exploited. In any case, isn't there already a thread, about this particular topic?

The Amazing Spider-Man #11 review. I liked the double crossing, Otto wanting Peter to believe he was a future version of himself, Peter letting him assume he was from the past. Two disagreements with your quoted text, though: - Peter didn't outwit Otto, he simply had more information, because he actually was from the future.
- In western movies, the guys beating themselves are usually good (both of them), I'm not sure we can say that about Otto at this point in the story.
And then we have the resolution of the fight, which was short and gave us a too compliant Superior in the end, at least for my taste. I can't say I was very satisfied with it, maybe because of the build-up. I was actually expecting him to be lured out of his refuge, so he could be killed, because given his power level, there was no way for him to enter the fight without ending it rather swiftly. I wasn't counting on Slott's shameless and crude try, at giving us the undefeatable foe. At least this fight was visually attractive, up to the end, when Cosmic Spider-Man had to utter those last words (anyone else well past tired of hearing the mantra?). That, and it breaks the narrative and artistic uniformity of the comic. As an all time Gwen fan, I can say this scene meant nothing to me. I found it superficial, just something Slott wanted to get out of the way. Him taking charge felt quite imposed. This is a war, and Otto's approach made more sense, but we'll see how Peter's different take on the situation, will be what ultimately means the difference between victory or defeat, I'm sure of that.

The Amazing Spider-Man Annual #1 review. Having read more than 1500 Spider-Man comics in the last year and a half, it's difficult to say where, but I'm certain I've seen it before. He looks for trouble because he's an adrenaline junkie, and that's also what we could see reflected on his face, in that last panel. In the context of the story, though, it does look like he just wants an excuse to get away. If you really want to find a provocative thought in this issue, how about "Teenage me would have been all over this"? I loved that one, from when he finds out the phone's locked. This could be the common theme of both stories. No jokes. In the first one he's in a hurry, so the Menagerie doesn't get his "top-notch material", in the second he has a sore throat. And you know what? It's better to get no jokes, than lame ones.
