Answering the question "How long will Slott's run last?", with this words:
I suddenly realized that Mantlo is a much more important Spider-Man writer, than he's ever given credit for.
It's easy to consider Lee, Michelinie or Slott, because their runs on ASM, were (are) very long. It isn't very difficult, to remember Conway, because he followed on "The Man" footsteps, and subsequently signed a lot of consecutive comics, on both PPSSM as well as in WOSM. But Mantlo never did more, than a handful of issues for the main title, and even his run on PPSSM, was interrupted by Stern's trial run on the character. Nevertheless, at the end of the 70's and beginning of the 80's, no other writer was commissioned so much Spide-Man work, as him. Even more relevant names, like JMS, don't accumulate so many Spidey comics.
From October 1975 (he wrote his first MTU a year before) to November 1986, for over a decade, whenever Marvel needed someone reliable to do the deed, Bill was "The Man".

A s it stands, he's already written more Spidey comics than anyone else, with the exception of Michelinie; but Slott's very close and will surpass that mark, just with the comics already in the queue. He holds a small advantage over Conway and Lee, and a more sizable one over Mantlo, who I think would complete the top 5, unless there's someone from the 90's, closer to a hundred issues.Small correction, after doing a quick and dirty recounting, this is currently the ranking: - Slott, close to 140 and counting.
- Michelinie, about 135.
- Conway, will reach 130 after Spiral.
- Lee, stopped shy of 120.
- DeMatteis, barely made it to the 100 mark.
- Mantlo, some 95 comics.
