Just pinching an idea from the CBR forums question wise.
In CBR the question started around Spider-Island and there were rumours at the time that she was going to be the new Scarlet Spider (before it was confirmed to be Kaine). And there was the Jackpot period as well.
I know there's an alternate reality where she was a lesbian Spider-Woman but do you think it'd be a good idea in the 616 universe to have her have powers? Even in the short term lasting say a year? |

What made the Spider-Man cast interesting, in the Lee era, was the fact that it was made up of regular people. Norman Osborn was added had hoc, and not really part of the cast. Once less capable writers took over, we started seeing them donning costumes and getting powers (or being related to people who had them, like Liz). It's a poor writer's trick.
Just make the characters interesting, build their personalities, and leave the powers to the main character and nemesis.
