If I'm not mistaken, the general reception for this comic has been good. What do you guys think? What is it that makes it thick?
This limited series is still more than a month off, from being completed; which is when I'll asses it. I can advance, though, my feeling that the assessment won't be positive.
One thing I can say, I don't like stories which are supposed to be faithful to the original work, which only expand it with stuff that fits between panels, because they invariably end up altering the meaning, if not the narrative, of they work they're apparently building on. From Untold Tales to Parallel Lives, they've all done it. That's why I prefer the most straightforward (and honest) approach of Spider-Man Blue, it messed up with the early Lee-Romita, and had no problem admitting it.

I still have to read it but so far I just have the numbering that they gave to this miniseries. Do you guys put it together with Amazing Spider-Man in your boxes or do you keep it separate?

It has little to do with ASM, as far as I'm concerned. I view it as one of those, earth-whatever, limited series they publish left and right.

Only one to go. Before doing my review, there was something I left unsaid, which doesn't depend on how they end this thing. Is something that was also present in Untold Tales, something I find unnerving… Marvel Time. Because of the infamous "Sliding Scale", the events from 50 years ago are supposed to have happened 13 years ago, but because the authors of flashback stories always want to indulge in nostalgia, we get to watch temporal anomalies all over the place. I disliked it to no end, 20 years ago, and I still do. I know that decidedly setting the story in the 21st century exacerbates the sense of this not being earth-616, but it feels like an alternate Spider-Man anyhow, so why bother? The other route is to "ignore" Marvel Time, and capture the look of the 60's (in this case). As long as you aren't giving dates, or referencing historical events, you can always declare yourself innocent, of breaking the rule.

Ok, with issue 1.5, this thing is officially over. I'm not even going to bother with all the promotion, and how the actual limited series doesn't live up to it; after all, whenever it does, is just a coincidence (isn't advertising about selling everything as the best so far).
Aunt May. I don't fully recognize her, as the character from the earlier Ditko stories. She's shown here as a much more cheerful and talkative old lady She doesn't look nearly as frail, either.
Jameson. Slott choses to place him in between his role as a buffoon, and the more realistic one, of a respectable newspaper editor. As an end result, he's neither funny nor believable. I prefer his current take on the character, over the pages of the new ASM title. Of course, if given the option, I would go with Stern's or Straczynski's version, but that ship sailed long ago.
His friends. I don't see the need for new characters. At least, Busiek had the good judgement of doing really different things with the ones he introduced (killing), but giving us new (old) supporting cast we've never seen again, makes little sense. So Peter wasn't the only nerd? Still, I could do without "explaining" why he didn't socialize with other nerds from school. It was self-explanatory in the original material, that turning into Spider-Man led to him integrating.
Clash. As has been already pointed out, this is a C-list villain. Worse than that, he's remained imprisoned longer than anyone else, because we know he's not retired, he'll make a big comeback, right?

sounds like i can miss this unless its reprinted in Astonishing. Depends on who you believe, there's a widespread opinion out there, that this is the next best thing since sliced bread. Ok, maybe not so much, but you get my meaning.
