The first issues of this title, offer a good example of (both), what a Spider-Man Family comic should and shouldn't be. It's really difficult to label.
Approach one. The first three issues are Spider-Man comics. This is based in the role played here by MJ.
Approach two. The first issue should be considered a Spider-Man comic, because of Peter's cameo.
Approach three. Due to Carol Danvers working at the Daily Bugle, the title itself gains "Spider-Man Family" status.
Approach four. Having its origin outside of the Spider-Man books, Ms. Marvel is independent. The fact that part of the regular cast appears at the Bugle, doesn't make it a Spider-Man related title. Not even those first issues. Carol is her own man.
Opinions?

Carol is her own man? Shouldn't that be Carol is her own woman? Just teasing I know what you mean Ozy.
Anyway back to the topic.
I like to think of Carol as being a ''distant relative'' in the Spider-Man Family.

In the beginning, I also associated her with the Spider-Man family, because of the reasons explained. But after a fashion, se became more related to the Avengers world. Nowadays, after so many years and adventures (both in the group and solo), she IS her own man.
