Stern & McLeod, Conway & Paul Smith, DeFalco & Frenz. All of them, creative teams from the past, come to give their take on the current Spider-Verse event.
If the first issue is any indication, they want to explore other dynamics than the "Crisis" approach we've seen so far in Edge of Spider-Verse. No inheritors, no deaths, just some secondary characters, playing their minor role in the big scheme of things.

Issue two turned up to be quite different. At least in the story written by Conway, we get back to the inheritors, the deaths… sigh. And it wasn't drawn by Paul Smith, as advertised, but rather by a guy called Steven Sanders (never heard of him). Leaving aside for a moment, the fact that they messed up the reading order already, with ASM #11 and SW #1; last time we saw Spider-Gwen, she was with Anya, trying to keep an eye on Silk, now she's off somewhere else, running after some Spider-Goblin? Has Conway even been briefed, about what's happening in the comics involved in this event?

I found that strange as well, looks like they got their release orders wrong or something. Either way I felt it was an average read and the art was okay. Both 2.6 for art and story so 5.2 is my overall rating. Not terribly disappointed or anything since it's only a tie-in mind.

It could very well be that, it just gives you an idea of how "carefully" the event has been planned. No wonder the end result isn't exactly breathtaking.

I don't think it's been that carefully put together myself. I think they're just trying to get as much money as they can from the last Spider-Man ''event'' before the Secret Wars stuff happens personally. I know ''Spiral'' is coming up but I think that's part of Secret Wars as well, could be wrong though.

Yeah I noticed them, I was agreeing with you but I don't think I made myself very clear now that I look back on the post lol.

The first installment of the last episode, is an important part of the saga: the recruiting of Karn, who will play, undoubtedly, a relevant role in next week's conclusion.
As if we hadn't seen ridiculous enough Spider-Whatever already, we bear witness now to the joke, only Spider-Madam can represent. Fortunately, she stays out of the fight.
The second part of the comic is by old timers DeFalco, Frenz and Sal Buscema. The story is quite silly (Spider-Girl gets a temper tantrum), but at least is nice to see two of the most fondly remembered Spider-Man artists at work again, even if they are past their prime.
