My main problem with it, was the fact that I saw it as an Alan Moore's Swamp Thing rip-off. True, magic doesn't mix very well with Spidey, but as long as it was an option and didn't affect later stories, I was mostly ok with it. Obviously that wasn't the case, as they've come back to the concept several times. Not particularly happy about that. Well, the other theme involved with JMS' totemic origin is that it also touched on the idea that "science" and "magic" are indistinguishable--something which he explored earlier in his television series, Babylon 5--especially with the introduction of "Techno-Mages," people who had mastered science and technology to such levels that they've become like wizards and warlocks of fantasy. I haven't watched that series, but from what you say, it looks like JMS has also taken "inspiration" in Clarke's third law. You have to hand it the guy, at least he knows who to read.

While I'm more than willing to give Silk a chance as a character I feel that Slott is trying TOO hard to make her look AWESOME! whilst at the same time making Peter look dumb in comparison.
Black Cat's villainy was too ott in this as well and for the majority of the issue Humberto's art was at it's ''loose look'' worst.
Didn't enjoy the story really. Most enjoyable part for me was JJJ standing in the way of the camera blocking the unmasking of Spider-Man. And that was it really.
Spider-Man Noir was better than this (and I genuinely enjoyed that issue, not being sarcastic about that in any way).
Sorry for the rant but I was....''disappointed'' shall we say? With this issue. Hoping for better next issue.
Worst part is this was the last comic I read from the ones I bought last week as well which made it worse
So anyway what did you think? Agree? Disagree? In the middle?
Oh and my points for this issue was 1.2 out of 5 for the art and 0.8 out of 5 for the story (which is solely for the JJJ bit) so a total of 2 out of 10.
Rant over I promise

I'm out of the country, which means I'm not reading new releases until next week. Didn't get past your first line of text.

It started well. The first two pages are good, after that it gradually dives into the typical nonsense. The bit with Sajani having her own agenda was a plus, Felicia having fond her "true nature" is preposterous. Anna Maria continues to be downplayed. And who's that old lady? Aunt May? For the new readers, who started reading with the new volume, this is almost a new addition. 4.5/10.

Yeah I agree that it went downhill after the first couple of pages.

Up to issue 6 (included), I'd say they range between 4.5 and 5/10. The first two were OK, although he dealt with a potentially interesting situation (after Superior), in a very superficial way. The next four are worse, because of his fixation with imposing Silk over the Black Cat, in such a disastrous fashion (on both ends*).
This week's issue, while straying from that path, also leaves much to be desired. We have the silly jokes, like Anna trying to keep Peter and Cidy off each other by water pistol-ing them, or the clever puns, like a giant girl crushing (with her boot) a Ms. Marvel impersonator, while telling her she has big shoes to fill. Sadly enough, those are the highs of ASM, about right now.
* Neither Felicia turning into a she-Kingpin, nor Cindy being cool, are ideas Slott's managing to sell well, at all.

I merged both threads about Silk, but lost the 164 views the other one had, in the process Now it would be a good thing, to delete the "6" from the title, so it refers to the character, in general. Note: if I do it myself, the name of the thread's creator will change (I already tried that before).

Interesting. Still I think it is a good idea to merge both threads about Silk.

Here is a question that might come across as disrespectful but why is Dan Slott writing Spider-Man if the idea is to make other characters look better than him, first it was Ock (Ends of Earth/Dying Wish) then it was Superior (Peter Ock) and now its Silk. Seriously the name of the Book is the Amazing Spider-Man so have Spider-Man be amazing is that too much.

Maybe Slott has grown tired of the character, maybe he fell in love with his own creation (SpOck), but whatever the reason, it really feels, reading the current volume of ASM, like he needs to undermine the main character. Silk's introduction may just be another way, of making him look bad in comparison, or it may be a genuine try on his part, at creating a new character. In the later case, he's not doing a great job.

Seriously the name of the Book is the Amazing Spider-Man so have Spider-Man be amazing is that too much. Good question Volcaniktiger. I've been wondering that since he came up with the ''Superior Spider-Man'' crap. I know some (a lot?) of people enjoyed it but...ugh.
But yeah, I don't know why he's still on the book since he doesn't seem to think Spider-Man should be ''Amazing'' in his own book for goodness sake.
I personally feel that it's time he left (well I've felt that way for a while now but it's becoming more and more passionately so) unfortunately I haven't heard anything about him leaving after Spider-Verse so I guess I'm stuck with him at least until sometime in 2015.
Just to be fair though, I think he comes up with some good ideas, and he has his moments as far as character moments are concerned but for the most part I don't think he executes his stories very well and also I think he loves Doc Ock so much because he reminds him of himself.
For example, apparently he wasn't happy about not getting an Eisner award for his She-Hulk run and feels that he doesn't get the credit he ''deserves'' - a bit like Doc Ock perhaps?
But enough of my rant

From what I've read about interviews, not the interviews themselves, keeping the character that way is pretty much an editorial mandate. I doubt a new writer would be granted permission to change that, not as long as they're happy with sales.
