I'm entertaining the idea of reading this. The problem is that I recall trying the first issue and not liking it much. Is there a better arc I can try, that wouldn't be too spoiler-y, in case I like it and decide to read it all?

Guess I'll start from the beginning, then.

Thank you, both. I guess I'll be answering my own question later on, when I finish. So far I'm not seeing anything outstanding. Not unexpectedly so, mind you. When it came out, I remember checking the first issue and not finding it particularly appealing. True, i was probably comparing it to The Ultimates, which is a tough competitor. Over time, I've grown quite fond of Bendis's work. I'm hoping to like this at some point, I just wanted to jump directly on that

I think if you like it i might get the ulimate collections but part of me just wants to jump on miles story and leave Peter because i would reckon there is a lot of tie ins and things that i would need to get to fully read peter's story or doest USM not tie in to the rest of the universe

Up to that point, it's pretty self-contained. The only time when I felt I needed to read something, was with Dr. Conners sudden appearance in USM, after having been presented in UMTU. Of course, other characters from the Ultimate Universe rear their ugly head (a prerequisite of UMTU), but you don't "need" to read anything else.

Back to my initial question, now that I've read all 163 issues of Ultimate Spider-Man, these are my picks (in chronological order): - Silver Sable (USM #86-90), rating 6/10.
- Death of a Goblin (USM #112-117), rating 6.6/10.
- Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends (USM #118-122), rating 6.1/10.
- War of the Symbiotes (USM #123-128), rating 6.6/10.
- Tainted Love (Ultimate Comics Spider-Man v1 #9-14), rating 6.4/10.
For a more concise answer, I would wholeheartedly recommend Ultimate Comics Spider-Man v1 #12 & 13, those are rated 6.9/10 (and that's pretty high, coming from me).

Until Ultimatum hit, Peter's story was basically self-contained, since then things have changed. In the few years Miles has been donning the custom, he's been involved in the Death of Spider-Man, Divided We Fall, United We Stand and Cataclysm story-lines. Add to that, his participation in the All-New Ultimates title, and you get the idea. Before you think of even reading the current Ultimate Spider-Man, I'd advise you to check any other Ultimate title you might be interested in, otherwise spoilers will be gigantic. Don't we love crossovers?

Thats the thing i'm not interested in anything but Miles and maybe all new ulimates, i was thinking of the fantastic four but it was canceled long before death of spiderman, the x-men thing doesn't really do anything for me and i'm on the bench for the Ulimates. Acutally being honest i'm on the shelf for the whole universie because of tie ins and everything. The fact i'm collecting stuff from Top Cow and 616 i don't have the $$ or the space to get yet another universe (though i am interested in Grim Fairy Tales).
