I've been doing a massive read through of the Marvel Universe books, starting with Fantastic Four #1, and working my way up to the present, in as close to chronological order as I can. It's been tedious at times, but a fun project to attempt. After a brief break from the 616 to read the New Universe line of titles, I'm now back to the 616, and first up is an old favourite of mine, Spider-Man vs Wolverine! Funnily enough, despite getting this in a Wolverine reprint book, and my interest originally being for him, this is a damn good Spider-Man book, and slots pretty seemlessly into the ongoing books, with expansions on the likes of Peter's weird relationship with Mary Jane right now, and his ratty working relationship at the Bugle, and most importantly, the death of long time supporting character, Ned Leeds. I included the covers for when the story was reprinted in Wolverine Unleashed, which I've always loved, for anyone outside the UK and Ireland who may never have seen them. Sadly I'm not sure who the artist was, since I don't have access to those reprints anymore to check. Written by James Owsley, art by Mark Bright.

First, let me congratulate you on your first post, with nice covers to boot. Second, let me congratulate you on placing the thread in the correct sub-board. You may've noticed I'm a stickler for order, and I even sometimes move threads around, when they're posted in the wrong place. Not everyone appreciates my doing that, but I'm too old to change. After no small amount of bootlicking and the corresponding forum-idiosyncrasies-explanations, let's get down to business. This is a landmark issue for several reasons: - Spidey kills someone
- Ned Leeds dies
- The path to the marriage is set (he wasn't completely over Felicia back then)
- Logan finds out Peter's secret
The quality of Owsley's writing is almost at the level he used to have, back when he hadn't changed the name, but I didn't like how he overplayed the rookie vs experienced trope. Also, it didn't look like he really understood the full extent of Spidey's powers, but then again, very few ever did. All in all, not a top 100 issue, but close enough; and totally recomendable, due to historically significant considerations. As for the artist of the covers for those reprints, #34 is listed as done by Lee Sullivan, not sure about #36... Cam Smith?
