Either this is a sign that Slott's lost interest in the series, or he just wants the reader to know how he really feels about writing the as it show that he's not loving Spider-Man/Peter Parker at all. This reinforces my belief that he's under contract with the Spider-Office, of which it's set to expire in 2016. This is key, to understanding the current state of affairs, in the Spider-Office. If you take a look at the ASM thread, you'll see we're not alone, when it comes to disliking the ongoing title, and there's a solid argument to be made, about the quality of Slott's writing, since the end of Superior. Now, why is that? I don't know about contracts, but it does look, like he's not doing all he can. Speculating that he's frustrated about the return of Peter, is just that, speculation, but if you've been reading his work, the difference between last year's worth of stories, and the ones he wrote before (both for ASM and SSM) becomes clear. As for why Felicia destroyed her collection? It's because she's being mind controlled…LOL The mind controlling bit. I can't think of other ways to salvage the character. Her behavior since BND could be explained, as you've said, by the lack of memories, regarding the true nature of her relationship with Spider-Man, but since her incarceration, she's just been going from bad to worse. Nothing sort of brainwashing, can redeem her character, at this point.

Nothing sort of brainwashing, can redeem her character, at this point. My original theory of the Black Cat's behavior might stem from the fact that it might not even be Felicia Hardy at all. What we never saw was the Skrull version of The Black Cat as opposed to the others during the secret invasion, such as Skrull Queen Veranke who posed as Spider-Woman. And we know that Slott likes to copy ideas from Bendis. I would think that the Black Cat who Peter had a no strings attached relationship with was not Felicia Hardy at all as she would never agreed to that proposal as it would degrade their relationship. Another thing that was never explained as what really happened to her Cat's Eye Private Investigations company, as well as why she started stealing again? That might be the transition moment from Bounty Hunter/Detective to a Thief once again the moment she got her bad luck powers back. Something that she would never do as she knows that good things never come out of having them in the first place by criminal means. If none of those theories are true, then the lack of her memories of Peter Parker as Spider-Man is the root cause. While it might have been initially stated that The Black Cat likes Spider-Man and not Peter Parker. But it was Peter Parker who she had a relationship with rather than Spider-Man. To her, Spider-Man was a guy who she could play with; but it was Peter Parker who caused Felicia to self reform. It was Peter who saved her from her demons, which led her to become an anti-hero instead of a villain. The thing that could resolved Felicia's out of character moment is for Spider-Man to restore her memories. But I feel that once he does that, Felicia will be very pissed off at him for not restoring them to her sooner. Peter might soon realize that he was her moral compass and not Spider-Man. Afterall, Felicia finally mentioned that she loved Peter Parker more than Spider-Man. Not the other way around.

Okay, that was quite the content-filled post, let's go step by step. My original theory of the Black Cat's behavior might stem from the fact that it might not even be Felicia Hardy at all. What we never saw was the Skrull version of The Black Cat […] I would think that the Black Cat who Peter had a no strings attached relationship with was not Felicia Hardy at all as she would never agreed to that proposal as it would degrade their relationship. That was certainly stage one, of the character assassination. It never felt to me, like the Felicia displayed post-OMD, had much in common with Wolfman's creation, or Stern's interpretation, or any of the subsequent variants. Could she had been replaced by a Skull? That would be more credible, in the Marvel Universe, than she just displaying another aspect of her personality. I can understand, how others (oldschool) might accept this explanation, but I don't relate. But for the BND fiasco, I still prefer the absence of part of her life, her memories, her personality, as the most logical explanation. I agree on the first part of the paragraph, but I actually prefer brainwashing, to explain stage two, of the character assassination, the one that came into place after Superior. Slott has taken things too far, for her lack of memories to be an acceptable explanation to me anymore. I think it'd be cool if Spider-Man discovered and broke the "spell", only for her to regain her memory as a side effect. Then she would be genuinely aggravated.

Slott once said that there is more to the Black Cat story than it seems. So far, we haven't seen it at all. She's going to appear in Gerry Conway's Spiral storyline in ASM #18.1, which I doubt will be any different. Already Marvel is pushing the idea of the Black Cat as a villain very hard. But it has not been well received by the mass audience who only remembers her as an anti-hero.
I think that when the time comes for Slott to leave ASM, he will leave it as one GIANT mess. It’s clear that the reason why he signed on as full time writer was to see Superior Spider-Man come to form. I do not think that he was ever a fan of Peter Parker or any of his supporting cast, like Mary Jane. The fact that he made Felicia Hardy into a villain is Slott giving the middle finger to the Black Cat fans. If he didn’t like either MJ an Felicia, why couldn’t he had used Betty Brant and Jennifer Walters as alternates. Even Jessica Drew and The Black Widow might have been a fun alternate.
If Slott wanted to give Spider-Man a female villain, why couldn’t he imported Madam Viper, Lady Deathstrike, or even Typhoid Mary as those characters might have made for an interesting crime boss than the Black Cat. Ever since he took over ASM, we have seen more character creations than at any other time. In contrast, we have seen LESS involvement with Spider-Man and his other superhero friends, aside from Johnny Storm. It might had been cool if we saw Peter dating Jessica Drew, Jennifer Walters(Human form), or even Greer Grant(Tigra)…
But it seems as if Slott is burned out from writing ASM. But he can’t leave due to his contract clause, which means that he has to finish his obligations. This might be why the quality of he recent ASM run wasn’t good because it was intended to be a continuation of Superior Spider-Man. In an interview, Slott mentioned that he had planned to bring Peter Parker back after the Secret Wars had Superior Spider-Man continued. So far, his run has been very painful to read because it is so bad. I do not have much hope on RYV due to Slott’s past treatment on Peter and Mary Jane. As for Black Cat, I want to see her memories of Peter as Spider-Man restored. Her best character development stems from her interaction with Peter, not Spider-Man.
I hope that 2016 will be the last year of Slott’s run because he would have achieve his goal as being the greatest Spider-Man writer of all time(he said that on his formsprings account in 2012) in terms of sale volume issues, in terms of character creation, etc. I think that Slott’s been on the book for too long.

I wouldn't say so much Marvel, as Slott himself, otherwise we couldn't have seen the version of the character, that Spencer portrayed in The Superior Foes of Spider-Man. In any case, we'll know for sure this Wednesday. It's his baby, that's clear, but I'd say writing Spider-Man has other charms of its own. As for using the rest of his cast, if Slott taking over the title meant something, was the slow, but sure disappearance of them all, only JJJ and aunt May remain, for all the good it does them. I don't think it was about getting a female villain, but about getting Felicia out of the picture, and make room for Silk. The problem now, is that Spider-Gwen is probably more popular, so they've given each her own title, to see how the fans respond. Or he's just frustrated, because he can't continue with his work on Superior. The greatest? I don't think so. The one who's written more Spider-Man comics? Already done.

Yeah I wouldn't call Slott the greatest writer of all time either. He's by no means the worst but he's not the best.

Yeah I wouldn't call Slott the greatest writer of all time either. He's by no means the worst but he's not the best. And yet, most people think he's the best Spider-Man writer, since Lee. I guess some distance (in years) is needed, to put things in perspective. Let's wait 10 years, see how many of them still feel the same way.

She's going to appear in Gerry Conway's Spiral storyline in ASM #18.1, which I doubt will be any different. The comic in question came out finally, with a delay of several weeks. It's true we still see her portraying the role of the villain, but under Conway's pen, she doesn't seem so deranged. I can appreciate the toning down, even if it doesn't address the larger issue.

Could be, it's something to be expected when commenting directly, so I guess a small effect can also be expected, in the more indirect form of a ballot.
