This imposter would have to at least APPEAR to defeat Goblin. Maybe the imposter swoops in while Goblin and Peter (in his street clothes) are fighting, distracts Goblin and then Peter hits Goblin with a sucker punch. Then Goblin is tied up unmasked and dragged into public, with Peter and the imposter there together. The public, including the press comes on scene and Norman's credibility is destroyed. I don't want to use Prowler/Toby again, but if it's necessary it can be made to work.
Any thoughts? Improvements?

Johnny was the hero he had been in contact with the most, and they were of a similar age. Kevin didn't meet those requisites, but he pretty much knew who he was, and they had shared some intense adventures, intense on a personal level. Daredevil had met Spider-Man on several occasions, but they were little more than colleagues. It was Peter David who brought them closer. Hobie Brown was his go to guy once, because he owed him one, but they didn't part in the best of terms in ASM #93.

I suppose Johnny could act as the imposter with help from Reed, being the genuis that he is, still i would say Daredevil with his power set would be a better choice but thats just me.

Of course, having appropriate skills would be necessary to pull something like that off, but I was just giving you context about Spider-Man's social circle at the time. Not pointing at the best candidate, power-wise. In any case, if Kraven could do it, Ka-Zar should also be able to perform a credible impersonation.

With his face completely covered Daredevil would be a good choice, but I don't think their friendship was that close back then. He didn't know Peter's secret identity until the Death of Jean deWolf.

I don't remenber if I ever mentioned it earlier on this thread, but since this an alternate timeline story, another thing that can be done is make it a timeline where Sins Past never existed. I think this option just came to me recently, when I realized in alternate realities anything goes!

I think this option just came to me recently, when I realized in alternate realities anything goes! Of course, who in his right mind, would want to repeat that fiasco? Just came to realization about the difference between alternate timeline and alternate universes. An alternate timeline has one key event change which causes a divergence from the normal timeline from that point in time forward where an alternate universe has as many deviations from the original timeline as one would want and they don't have to occur at any single point in time. An alternate timeline is a branch off of the original timeline, where an alternate universe is a parallel timeline in close proximity that might share similarities with the original, but has differences in many different ways. Having said THAT If there was some miscommunication between us regarding this misconception regarding alternate universes and timelines, I humbly apologize. Your 1984 concept could be made to work in it is considered an alternate universe where Sins Past never happened AND Gwen was sent through time. Then again, Same thing with the 1973 concept. Alternate universe, Gwen doesn't die (maybe Aunt May, which was Conway's original idea (it's really disheartening to know that loveable John Romita was the one who changed Conway's target choice!) is the one who dies. but in this universe there is no Sins Past either. Makes it a hell of a lot easier to write! Hell, you CAN in fact make it simply an alternate timeline story where Sins Past never happened and because of this, Osborn had no reason to kill Gwen in the first place!!! Get Uatu on the phone we've got another What If story for him!!!

The 1984 proposal is on hold, until Secret Wars clears the air. Of the three threads, I think we should focus in the How to Bring Gwen Stacy Back In Present Day one, that's the one with better prospects. I've been re-reading it, and there's enough material there, to make something work. I'll compile the compatible ideas this weekend, to commemorate the forum's first anniversary.
