Dav -
I think part of the problem is kind of a death by 1000 cuts kind of thing; save the big stuff, each thing by itself isn't awful - but taken together and with the suffocating writing rules of no wife/kids, etc
They've kind of backed themself in a corner writing wise and have way to much legacy costs to maintain ... They've killed crushed or maimed most of the supporting cast... They've had huge fantastic arcs that fans hate ... And the systemstically torture the charector, so if something good happens - you know it's only a precursor to something 10x worse
And by eliminating a wife/kids (and with it any "real") path at growing up... They killed a lot of the balance
Look at around issue 90 - you had balance, a strong supporting cast, etc.
Kind of turned into a soap opera, with whole arcs seeming to exist to try and clean things up - and even with OFD - which is a giant reset button - they STILL missed the mark... I think they struggle to understand what makes the charector appealing.

Some people see Slott's latest twist, as Peter doing exactly what you say: "doing good in other ways". As the head of a corporation, he's now bringing technology to the masses. Another thing, would be to accept that this came to be, in a realistic way. Not going to happen supposedly the Jackel has gone past cloning to actually raising the dead so it is possible that its the real Gwen. The question is if she will survive the event after all I thought Dan had said that Gwen would never be returned so long as he was writing the book.

Well we shall see what kind of story Mr Slott tells I'm not holding my breath but there are other ways.

The art at least, looks good, although I can't say I'm satisfied with Gwen's rendition:

It's early days yet as far as the story is concerned. Though I'd have been surprised if it turned out to truly being the real Gwen Stacy. I thought Clone Conspiracy 1 was a good issue. It's been while since I've said that about a Slott ASM issue. Art work was beautiful as usual by Cheung.

Do you think I should give it a try?

Clone Conspiracy? Yeah. I'd say so personally speaking. I enjoyed it more than I've enjoyed ASM recently that's for certain.

What about Dead No More and other tie-ins? I must admit I not very familiar about this event, the second Clone Saga is a bad enough precedent.

Well Prowler is yet to be released so I can't really comment on that. If I remember correctly I think Silk is supposed to tie-in with the event and apart from ASM I think that's all the tie-ins to Clone Conspiracy. I think ''Dead No More'' was removed as a title name for the story if I remember correctly and it's just called Clone Conspiracy now, if I remember rightly that is. I've been super-busy lately LOL so I haven't caught up with all the news comics wise.
As you may've noticed with my absence of late on this board.

What, you think I noticed amidst the booming amount of posts I've been seen around, these past few months? Nah.
Incidentally, I'm also like a month behind, vis a vis new comics (meniscectomies are a bitch).

Not satisfied with all the mischief he can get away with, in the main story, Slott also takes the opportunity to re-write the most important part of ASM #121. Five new pages that change or settle, a few key events. Sales are everything, anyone had any doubts?

Wait and see I guess as to whether she actually IS coming back. I wouldn't put it past Slott to throw a curve-ball in there. IF she is indeed coming back than the initial storyline will be interesting at least.

I'd be surprised if he had anything else in store for the character. He never cared that much for Gwen. It's all about Warren and whatever big surprise Slott has cooked up for him.
